What is a Hose Barb?
- This is a circular ridge around the tube section of a hose shank. They attach and secure the fitting to a hose or tube.
Description:
- A Hose Barb Fitting has pipe thread on one end and a cylindrical hose shank with ridges on the other end.
- It has a hex shaped nut positioned between the thread end and hose shank for easy tightening and loosening.
Uses:
- Hose Barb Fittings are used to securely attached Pipe Thread into a hose or tube.
- Hose Barbs are widely used to connect hoses to pipes, valves, pumps and other related equipment and components.
Advantages:
- Provide a secure connection into a hose or tube.
- The hexagonal shaped head facilitates easy tightening and loosening.
- Added grip provided by the hex nut makes them ideal for use in situations requiring a tighter connection.
Installation:
- The threaded end will connect to a Female BSP.
- The hose tail end portion will connect to a Hose End.
Size Classification:
- Barbed Hose Fittings are classified according to the size of the hose they will connect with.
- Usually the size of the pipe thread end will also corresponds to this size.
- For Example: a 1" Hose Barb will connect to a 1" hose and thread into a 1" pipe thread.
- However with hose barb reducers the size of thread end is given first followed by the size of the hose shank.
- For Example: a 1" x 3/4" Hose Barb Reducer will have a 1" pipe thread and a 3/4" hose shank.
Also Known As:
- Barb Hose Fittings
- Hose Barb Connectors
Alternate Options:
- An alternative to these barbed connectors are KC Nipples which have no hex nut between the Male Thread and the Hose Shank (currently available on special order)
Materials:
- Made out of Stainless Steel.
More Information:
A hose barb fitting is a type of connector used to join hoses together or to other components, such as pumps or valves, in fluid handling systems. It typically consists of a tapered, ridged or serrated end that is inserted into the inner diameter of a hose, securing it in place, and a threaded or smooth end that can be attached to another fitting or component. The barb is often slightly larger in diameter than the inner diameter of the hose, allowing for a secure fit through friction or by clamping mechanisms like hose clamps. This design prevents the hose from slipping off the fitting when under pressure. Hose barb fittings are commonly used in a variety of applications, including plumbing, irrigation, fuel & oil, chemical & pharmaceutical, construction and industrial processes, where they provide reliable connections for all kinds of fluid transfer.
